2001 GMC 1500 ex cab build (need help)?

2001 2wd GMC Sierra 1500 Ex. Cab 5.3L 4L60E Its getting lifted. I plan a Fabtech 7.5" Kit and a 3" Body lift. 38" all terrains. I know everybody is gonna say dumb idea for lifting a 2wd, but I got a Yukon on 39.5s so hints why this is a 2wd pavement pounder. here a couple things i have in mind: AEM intake, Superchips Cortex Programmer, B%26amp;M shift kit, added trans cooler, electric fans, and a couple other things the trans cooler and fans are foor reliability as i run from texas to mississippi quite often. but I need help on should i do the fans and cooler, gear choice 4.56 or 4.88, it will have straight exhaust from the cats back, and anything that would help with mileage( im not expecting magnificent mileage but just more than like 14MPG. and any more performance upgrades that should be addressed or any issues that need to be addressed. any pointers, suggestion, tips just help in general would be appreciated.2001 GMC 1500 ex cab build (need help)?
If your just gonna stay on the road and be road tripping a lot, and want good gas mileage, the higher the gear the better. You still need enough gear to turn the big tires but if ya go with 4:88's you will be great stop light to stop light, but top end and highway cruising are gonna disappoint you. Even with the 4L60E's overdrive, your RPMs will be higher, thus wasting more gas. Truck pry has 3:73 or 3:08's now, 4:11's would turn the tires good on the highway, and the shift kit will take up a lil of the slack stop light to stop light. And you should be able to run 70mph (the average national speed limit) without the truck in overdrive and maintaining under 2500 rpms. (having to turn taller gears and move all that rotating mass of a big tire is real hard on the overdrive in the 700R4 and 4L60E, its usually recommended to try and stay out of overdrive,) you will be able to tell once ya get out and drive it and how often it needs to kickdown out of overdrive when yer just cruisin along weather or not it is economical and capable of handling the load. The Trans cooler will help keep the heat ( the biggest killer of trans) down in the tranny since it will constantly be gettin a workout. An aftermarket transmission temp Gauge would be nice too. a Flex fan or electric fans will move more air, just look at the specs to see how much mcf they can push or pull, An MSD ignition system, or any other aftermarket ignition that allows for hotter and better ignition spark helps out all around too, with HP and mileage. All the lil add ons like cold air intake and the programmer will add lil HP gains, shorty headers and fuel injection upgrade would add more. Sounds like ya gonna have a sweet ride, enjoy, keep the shiney side up.

Make 2010 v6 mustang a better car?

Ok, so i just got a 2010 v6 mustang (same engine as 05-09 i think) and I want to make it an overall better car. Primarily more hp, quicker 0-60, faster 1/4 mile, and then handling etc after. I was thinking CAI, throttle body, exhaust, and short throw (oh its manual). What would i have to do to turbocharge it? Forged internals or just drop a turbo in? Ideally i want to spend as little money as possible (don't we all?) and get the most bang for my buck, so if anyone knows any company's that make good cheap parts, maybe put a link on or something.

Oh lastly, what do tuners do? Like superchips and stuff? I know about them and basically what they do, but are they worth it? Thanks in advance.Make 2010 v6 mustang a better car?
To make it faster get a cold-air intake, supercharger (better than turbos), an exhaust system, and a super chip. Those should make it faster than the GT. For handling you should get a better suspension system and tires. The 2010 Mustang is already good at handling so these minor upgrades should help a lot.Make 2010 v6 mustang a better car?
1st mistake: You bought a Ford

2nd mistake: You bought a Mustang

3rd mistake: you bought a V6!!!

Ok in all seriousness: First things first. Do your bolt ons and maximize the naturally aspirated power. You have the right idea with CAI, bore out the throttle body, maybe a throttle body spacer, and a throaty exhaust. Make the car breathe better and your throttle response will vastly improve.

Screw turbo, get a supercharger. Way easier on the engine and can perform better in varying weather, unlike the turbo.

Tuners will do a number of things, it can remove a rev limiter, elongate your gears, increase top end speed. Do all of your bolt ons and internals (cam, pulley, etc) then its time for a tune. Look for a company that will offer a free retune to stock due to the fact that once your car is tuned your warranty is toast.

As far as handling? Strut bars, limited slip diff, performance tires (w rated or better), lowering springs, etc.

Don't forget cosmetics! Those new mustangs look badass with projo headlights and the rousche bodykits...

What should I do to my 4.0L `98 Ford Exploder to get better fuel economy?

I recently purchase a `98 Ford Exploder with the 4.0L in it. For some silly reason the truck is only rated 19-21 MPG on the highway, and I only ever get that when I'm speeding excessively. If I drive at a decent speed, I normal get around 21-26 MPG (most commonly, 23 or 24.) But, still, that's not good enough for me. It's a light vehicle, and small enough engine. Also, the truck isn't very gutsy, I'm guessing anywhere from 160 to 200 HP.

I'm looking to spend $400 to $1000 on the truck to get better fuel consumption and more horsepower. I'm not sure if I want to (or even CAN) get a chip (I've heard good things about chips made by SuperChips,) headers, cold-air-intake, duel exhaust, or something entirely different.

What would you suggest, how much do you estimate it to cost, and what kind of results can I except? Also, what brand(s) would you recommend. Any other tips or secrets about this vehicle you care to pass on would be appreciated, as well. Thanks! What should I do to my 4.0L `98 Ford Exploder to get better fuel economy?
You really should look into performance chips, most offer 3-6+ mpg, 50+ hp, cost under $100, and install in under 5 min. Below theres a link to a chip for your Ford, this is the brand i bought. Contact them first and make sure it works on your vehicle first, better safe than sorry. Your Ford has 160hp, 225ft-lbs, and weighs 3692lbs.(If stock)

Good Luck!

Increasing power and increasing fuel economy are mutually exclusive of each other.

Just one example, introducing colder air at the inlet, increases the density and the injection system meters in more fuel. This increases power, but also burns more fuel.

It is not an increase in efficiency. What should I do to my 4.0L `98 Ford Exploder to get better fuel economy?
Fuel economy and horsepower don't mix kinda like vinegar and oil.

Inevitably you will loose some mpg to gain hp. Many products on the market claim to gain horsepower and mpg to date the only things you can do to increase hp and mpg is to increase the efficiency of your engine. A K%26amp;N air filter or intake system will increase your hp and mpg if your not loosing mileage some where else IE low tire pressure, dirty engine oil, accelerating then stopping then accelerating back up. When the engine has to adjust from the gas pedal increasing and decreasing the computer makes constant adjustments this causes loss of mpg thus the whole idea behind cruise control a constant setting without ups and downs. A chip is going to increase hp by advancing your timing and other variables and if its an automatic transmission it will increase your shift points causing loss of mpg!

Simplest answer!

More efficient air filter or air intake system

More efficient spark plug and ignition system

More efficient driving habits!

You get the picture. ;-)
It's already tuned to get the best fuel economy Ford could muster at the time. Since there are CAFE standards to be met, the auto makers have a vested interest in getting the best MPG as they can out of any vehicle.

If you're getting 21-26 MPG out of a 4000+ pound SUV you're doing better than most.

It also seems you don't know a whole lot about ICE's. Turbocharging does indeed use more fuel when the turbo is spooled up. You see, the exhaust gasses power the turbo that compresses the incoming air, of course to keep the mixture at an acceptable level the amount of fuel that goes into the mixture has be directly proportionate to the amount of air going in. So more air going in = more fuel going is as well. Furthermore most turbocharged engines have lower compression ratios for engine durability reasons, this makes them less fuel efficient when they are off the boost as well. However with the advent of direct injection compression ratios with forced induction are much higher than they used to be.

As for chips, since this a 98 model it's OBDII compliant you probably won't be using a chip, you'll be using a hand held tuner. If you program in a 93 octane tune, you may get a little more power and maybe a little more fuel mileage (nothing dramatic though). However the downside is that you will have to use premium fuel, which will negate any cash savings.

Overall there's not much you can do to get substantially better mileage out of your vehicle. Besides you're already getting much better mileage that's supposed to get.

Should I worry about the transmission in my 2008 f250 (diesel) after driving it with a superchip for a year ?

Im curious if my tranny should be gone by now, i got the truck the day i turned 16 with 6" lift 37" tires and a superchips flashpaq on performance the entire time, ive already gone through a set of Nitto mudgrapplers and now have toyo M/Ts this was the truck i worked all summer in cutting hay and constantly driving, truck had 12,000 miles when i got it in june of 2010 and now has 43,000 on itShould I worry about the transmission in my 2008 f250 (diesel) after driving it with a superchip for a year ?
why should it be gone? ford builds some hardcore trucks, you should be getting another 100,000 miles out of it, change the oil in the motor and change the transmission fluid , service the transfer case and the front and rear end at 100,000, and the truck will likely last another 100,000. That truck was built to run , haul heavy loads, drag crap through mud ,dirt snow, and anything else you can think of. Keep up the maintenance and hang on to it.Should I worry about the transmission in my 2008 f250 (diesel) after driving it with a superchip for a year ?
Yeah you should worry, particularly if you didn't bother to regear the truck after the lift and 37 inch tires. If you have the stock gears, then the transmission has far less mechanical advantage that it was originally designed to have. So consequently more stress is put on it. Also if you're running a performance tune all the time that will put more stress on the transmission as well since the tune allows the engine to produce more power than the engineers planned on having in the truck, particularly with a diesel were a just a simple ECU tune can net over 75 HP and over 100 lb/ft of torque. It's easy to exceed the transmission's rated torque capacity.

What does your EGT look like when you're running the performance tune 24/7? That can give you a good idea on what kind of stress you're putting the drivetrain through.Should I worry about the transmission in my 2008 f250 (diesel) after driving it with a superchip for a year ?
it should be fine, my buddies 1999 f250 has 300,000+ on the stock motor he has changed the trans a few times because he hauls 20,000 pound trailers everyday but the original trans lasted to 200,000 miles when the engine had new high performance fuel injectors bigger turbo and a lot of other stuff i cant think of, it also has a shift kit in the trans even in the original so you should be fine and im sure newer f250's trans are built to last

are all these things gimmicks or do some actually work?

i bought one once for a dodge intrepid for $13 and all it was was some kind of resistor.

are they all the same? i looked at superchips but al they do is ford, dodge, and gm. ive got a scion tc.$70 for a performance chip?
They do change HP, fuel mileage, etc, or whatever they claim but if you live in an area where you have to pass an emission test it may not pass the test after changing the chip.$70 for a performance chip?
I hear you man, I've got a 94 celica that i was looking for a chip for. ultimately, unless you have a turbo diesel, pre tuned chips don't do that much. I got an apexi AFC Neo which is a programmable override for the factory fuel maps. this helps when you modify a stock turbo like on the engine i plan to put in my car. From everything i read, those chips essentially tell your car that you are giving it more gas than you really are. as far as power upgrades for your tc go, you have TONS of choices, my suggestion would be a cat-back exhaust and intake upgrade, if you want some serious power gains, you can get a turbo or supercharger kit for it which will give it an easy 200hp to the wheels. Hope this helps

  • Performance Chips for cars. Do they really work and is this site reliable?

I have read a lot of reviews and lots of people have said that performance chips like Diablosport and SuperChips work. Do they really work or do they damage your car?

How about this website http://performancechipsnow.com they claim that "The Tunesport Module sends a modified signal through an engine data sensor, causing your factory Engine Control Module to reprogram itself for a more efficient air/fuel ratio and timing curve, essentially unlocking up to +75 Horsepower and up to +8 MPG in your vehicle!" Please help me decide if this tweaking is worth it. Thanks :)Performance Chips for cars. Do they really work and is this site reliable?
First, the website you listed is a scam. That's basically a resistor that screws up your computer in your car and makes it think it's running rich, and leans it out. There's no control over how much, and you will gain no power or mileage, and could cause damage to the engine.

Now, on to the REAL tuning solutions. Yes, those power programmers such as the Diablosport Predator, SuperChips, SCT Xcal3 (I own this one personally, more on that in a minute), Cobb ACCESSPort and others really work. In fact, using just these devices, you can tune full-fledged race engines making 500-1000hp or more. Now, with that said, they are very powerful devices. You can gain decent amounts of power with them, or you can blow up your engine if you don't know what you're doing. In some cases, such as with a car like the Subaru Impreza WRX and WRX STi, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, etc., 50+hp are possible from just a tuner. I've seen it. But the key to that, is those are turbocharged cars that control the boost with the computer. By retuning the computer, you can tell it to raise peak boost pressure, wich can have a dramatic effect on power. So tuning a stock STi from running 14psi to 17psi, like is standard with a Cobb Accessport, could easily make 50 WHEEL hp (or about 65-70hp at the crank) more than stock.

Now, want real world, hard numbers? Here's mine. I was racing my car, a 1998 Mustang Cobra, at the drag strip last year in late August. It was 95+ degrees outside and about 35% humidity. And I'm in Denver, where the actual altitude is 5800 feet at the track. Doing hot laps (not letting the car cool down between runs), the best I could do was 89mph, while my previous best was about 94mph. I pulled out my SCT tuner, and using some experience I have, I tuned it to add some timing and more fuel, changed a couple other parameters. Within 5 minutes, I had retuned the engines computer. I started the car, and let it idle for a couple minutes, then drove back to the staging lanes. With runs 20-25 minutes apart, I went from running a 15.68@89mph, to, still on a hot engine, a 15.38@91.5mph (I think). So I picked up 2.5mph and dropped about 0.3 seconds just from tuning a hot engine, driving exactly the same. Later that night, after some cooldown runs, I beat my previous best time (15.03@93.8) by turning a 14.86@94.97mph. Peak to peak when the car was cooled down, I picked up about 17hp I estimate between the hot runs, and from best to best, a peak of an additional 8whp (10 crank), and that's over the default SCT tune. My best un-tuned time was a 15.15@93.3mph. Overall, I'd guess the SCT tune added about 8whp, and the custom tuning another 8. So yes, you can gain more power with them, you just can't trust shady places like the website you linked.Performance Chips for cars. Do they really work and is this site reliable?
Chips DO work, but the ads are always deceptive, using key words like "up to" or "as much as".

Obviously, the result you get will be much greater if you have a 502 V8 than a 2.5L 4 cylinder.

I put a chip in my '86 Monte Carlo, and it HELPED performance, but it sure wasn't neck snapping performance with a rather sickly 305 engine.

Disregard all the claims of HP and mileage, and you may not be disappointed.Performance Chips for cars. Do they really work and is this site reliable?

Sorry, dude. Im gonna have to go with the RX8. Although it sounds like you for sure stand a chance. Let us know who wins....2000 Dodge Durango vs 05 Mazda RX8?
Well the auto in a rotary is not as quick as the stick. You will pull from the line quicker, but once he gets wound up he'll catch and pass you. Once he defeats the laws of inertia, it's his game. Keep him down to a 1/4 mile run and you'll stand a chance. Go for 0-100+ and he'll eat you for lunch. His "8" will find its legs around 50 or 60 mph. The rotary bogs down at the start, but once rolling its acceleration becomes impressive. I'd guess (never timed it) that he can go from 60-135 in less than half the time it took to get to 60.

It's about the same as some of the old big block full size sedans. I had a 66 Mercury with the 410ci Marauder engine many years ago. 0-60 could be timed on a calender, but 60-130 was FAST!!

One last thing: Do not challenge him on a road with curves. You won't stand a chance if you have to turn.

I currently have a Superchips 1715 programmer for it, but i cannot use it because it is VIN locked to another vehicle (i got it from a buddy at work). i called superchips and they said they could flash it for 100; but theres a high chance it wouldnt read the program on my trucks ECU, because it might have been flashed at a dealership. so he offered me a 150 dollar credit towards a new tuner if i sent the one i have in. now my question is: whats the best one? ive heard ups and downs about superchips, evo, edge, few other ones. i just got this truck a few weeks ago, and want to get it tuned, plus compensate for the large tires and calibrate speedo. here are the specs

As you know the M sport range doesn't do anything noticeable to performance, its just better alloys, body alterations etc, like the 'S line' in Audi's.

Notice how sharply the horsepower falls after peak (4600rpm). Even the torque is poor above 4k.

The tuner may move your peak HP a little bit higher, but there still is no reason to spin the stock rotating assembly that fast.

I did just that, but the programmer doesn't register the key has been turned. What could be wrong with my truck? This is the 3rd programmer and they've all done the EXACT same thing. HELP!!Superchip programmer 03 7.3l problem..?
You have a problem with the obd2 port. Check the obd fuse (could be a body fuse...depends on the car).

    2007 Dodge with 6.7 liter?

i already have a AFE intake i wanna to get a chip i tryed out superchips i loved the power but what would be the best chip secondly who knows more about this dpf delete pipe and if it is leagal to run on regular roads considering that the exhaust is 3 years ahead of its time buy law and in cummmins website we technicly dont have that policy with the partical filter till 2010

anyone else have more info2007 Dodge with 6.7 liter?
you cannot remove the dpf. it is federal law on all diesel engines in the united states after January 1st 2007. if you remove it you will not only be illegal but the truck will lose power. there are exhaust pressure sensors that monitor pressure before and after the dpf. if you remove it the sensors will know, and the ecm will cut back fuel and boost to derate power substantially so you can't do it. programmers and chips void your warranty, engine and power train for a good reason. the fuel system alone on this thing is almost $10,000. if i was you i would wait until out of warranty to play around.2007 Dodge with 6.7 liter?
not big into the computer but- chips a chip- just know what it is s'pose to do, its warranty- does it void you warranty( it would suck for the engine to be over stressed)

the pipe is legal if you don't get caught... if the cop wants to be picky..

but you might want to research more--- where is the exhaust going to end?? under the cap?? nice...lol

just straight pipe it--- Its all up to your ears I guess2007 Dodge with 6.7 liter?
Writer number two is right, it is Illegal to remove Your DPF, and besides that as writer 3 stated its not smart. your warrenty will be voided, not only will you loose power you can ruin your motor. As the DPF filters are pretty much identical across the board with dodge, ford and GM with a few minor differences (dodge and GM havent shot flame out of the pipe yet) it just spells bad news. I had one young welder ignore me when i told him not to modify his exhuast and its cost him close to 20K already, and we are not done yet. One of my Counterparts at dodge has had the same experience. Chip your truck or program it (bullydog, and hyper-techs are good) but leave your exaust alone.
Why would you want to void your factory warranty. Chrysler has sent out a notice as to what can cause your warranty to be voided. You have a truck that is producing 650 ft/lbs of torque out of the box. This is enough power to tear the rest of the truck to pieces. I guess its up to the owner, but it costs over $16000 to replace the long block in this truck. If its been modified your Cummins warranty is voided.

    2001 maxima PCM/ECU tune?

I would like to add a more agressive pcm tune to my maxima but i am having trouble finding one. I have not been able to find a Superchips, Diablo, ETC, the only one that i have been able to find is the JET and that requires physically taking out the ECU and sending it to them....

Probably because there's not a huge market for Maxima alterations. I think people were using the 350z ecu in maximas and I'm not sure how that would work out.

ratios in the differential, and a superchips programmer. this weekend i was challenged to a race with an old school chevy. i dont know what it has but if it were to fixed up as they say it is what are the chances of it having something to tear my *** up on? He wants to race for $2500. i know my truck runs but i dont knowmuch about the old school. he doesnt have a supercharger i know that and neither does he know i have one either but what are the odds.I have a 2002 gmc sierra 5.3L, whipple supercharger, k%26amp;n intake, throttle body spacer, shift kit, lower gear?
Well you need to know what size engine he is running to begin with, he may not have a supercharger but he may have NOS. You didn't state if you had opened up your engine, but what if he shaved his heads, went with a hot cam, pop-up pistons, double pumper carb. Most of this would put a serious hurt to your truck if all you have is what you stated. I don't know about you but if I was betting $2500 dollars I would first find out what the old chevy had under the hood. My 2 cents.I have a 2002 gmc sierra 5.3L, whipple supercharger, k%26amp;n intake, throttle body spacer, shift kit, lower gear?
cack off those old cars have a lot of power. had one done that. Won alot of money race careful wtch out whats under the hood man.and also how far arfe you racing, makes a difference I once had a 6 popper thatv beat alot of 350's and 400's. On one hand (and I think this is your best bet, personally) Don't be impulsive or foolish. Did you really build the truck up to blow it apart in a race and/or lose $2500 bucks? Just be happy that you have a great ride.

On the other hand: If you did build the truck to race, is this everything you have done? Ask around to see if this other car has been a sleeper in the local scene or wherever it is from. I bet he's got this thing dialed in really well and I think you sound somewhat unsure about your own ride. You know what to do, that is NOT to do, don't you?

If this guy is ready to run for 2 1/2 k you bette watch yourstep. I run on the street but only throw down scratch on a sure thing. I'm guessing this guy thinks the same. Check the 15 amp 4WS in your underhood fuse block for an open. If that fuse is good the chances (probably 90%) are you have a bad EVAP vent control solenoid. Should look like this picture below.

    http://gsi.xw.gm.com/image_en_us/gif/000鈥?/a>

A bad or loose gas cap won't set this code. You actually need a Tech2 to actually command the vent on and off to properly diagnose the problem, but vent solenoids aren't super uncommon.Service engine light codes?
Are you noticing any difference in the operation of your vehicle? I know that *I* can't decipher code numbers via this media. Without any *clues* of "physical trouble signs" in the performance of the engine, transmission, steering, braking, etc., I don't think that anyone posting here can help you.Service engine light codes?
You will need to ck the wiring to the vent valve. You could have a vent valve bad. a bad connection or a control issue at the pcm. It's time to have a pro check it out. A loose Gas Cap will not set this code.
Check that your fuel cap is tight !

    serious,it is common.

Do superchips/hypertech/diablo sport predator really give you horsepower and torque?

I have a 2007 dodge charger rt and i noticed alot of people are getting these chips to so called add more power. My question is do the chips really give you horsepower and torque gains you can actually feel? If so, how much horsepower/ torque gain should you get?Do superchips/hypertech/diablo sport predator really give you horsepower and torque?
yes sir go and put it and you will find out you will feel the difference
Most give off 10-15 horses some more or less. Have to check your vehicle and engine etc.Do superchips/hypertech/diablo sport predator really give you horsepower and torque?
    Yes it does but you have to down load into the computer%26gt; Good by warrenty???%26gt;And high test gas is needed%26gt;
absolutely, in todays cars where motors are governed by a computer, the chips modify timing and fuel delivery.

each manufacturer will post its own increase statistics.

I would also look at modifying exhaust to less restrictive cats and mufflers, that alone will give a noticeable increase..Do superchips/hypertech/diablo sport predator really give you horsepower and torque?
Or something better than a handheld tuner, Go to bgperformancepcm.com and get a custom flash, about 100x better than a handheld tuner piece of crap.
yes the do work really good ,here's a site that has some good chips and tuners on it ,they will help it to run a lot better, good luck. http://www.dodgeforum.com/m_753336/tm.ht鈥?/a>
more power, more torque, and shorter component life.
Is more of how much you want to pay in order to play. Yes it will change the mapping in your engine unlocking some more extra horses. The draw back is gas mileage, emissions and driveability. When the car comes from the factory is tuned to work in a wide range of conditions that has to meet with the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy), EPA, and have enough power to please the crowd with smooth driving experience. These types of chips reset the computer to change tranny shift points, add more fuel and many other adjustments that will increase the vehicle power therefore performance is the result of it. All comes to a price, lower your gas mileage, increase emissions and drives less smooth as far tranny shift points and so on.

For the motorheads is a plus, for the average people is not that pleasant. One thing that you have to consider is the whole car is a system. Once you change some, another has to be changed to gain benefit from the previous change. So is a circle that never ends. I suggest computer mapping changes Vs changing any other components. In case that you do not like it, you can revert back in the way it was without turning a single screw. Those are the easier mods, the most convenient, with more bang for your bucks.

  • HorsePower for 1998 GMC?

    Hi,

I have a 1998 Gmc truck with the 5.7 vortec. I know stock hp is about 260? But I also have a K%26amp;N FIPK and flowmaster cat back and superchips power programmer with the 91 octane option on, and I downloaded the program with my other modifctions listed.... How much Hp does anyone think I can be getting real world? I have just been wondering....

    Thanks!HorsePower for 1998 GMC?
I would take to the Superchip people, the cat back may sound better, but of little real horsepower. I have done dyno tests with the air flilter on and off. There is LITTLE difference with the low restriction filters and some sites worry that they DO NOT filter as well. Now, if your current air filter is dirty then yes, there is a difference, but it would have been cheaper to change the standard filter. Did you change the air inlet system and MADE sure you are getting cool air. Some of these conversions bring in heated under hood air and you loose ANY possible gain due to hot air.

I have a Superchips power programmer for my 2003 Dodge Ram with Hemi engine. It has a 87 octane mode. What does this mode do for you and how does it work?Power programmers?
it allows it to run on lower octane fuel and run and perform good at that point that's all that mode is for,its not a performance mode ,but more of an economy mode for it,and that's it,good luck.Power programmers?
it retards the timming so it doesnt "ping" on low octane gas..the other settings usually advance it and require 92 or better.

Mods include a AFE cold air intake superchips programmerI have a 2003 dodge dakota 4x4 4.7l and want to know if the HO intake manifold and cams are worth the hassle?
hey there you would gain alot more horse power its hard to say how much but i would do the up grade mods and get it dyno tested before and after and you will see big time changes with dyno readings for sure its worth the up grade if your wanting to make more horse powerI have a 2003 dodge dakota 4x4 4.7l and want to know if the HO intake manifold and cams are worth the hassle?
Just those mods alone no, but if you have the cold air intake, flowmaster, headers, throttlebody, roller rockers, superchip programmer it would be worth it. All these things work together. As for the actual amount of HP and Torque you gain, you would have to take somewhere and have it dyno tested.

F-250 Diesel Fuel Mileage Issues - Need Feedback?

I have a 2004 F-250 Diesel 4-Door Super Cab. For the first 6 months after we purchased it, the vehicle was getting 18mpg. Then all of a sudden the fuel mileage dropped to around 13mpg. I have gone back to the Dealer and have talked to Ford, but no one has been able to satisfactorily answer my question or provide me w/ a solution.

They just tell me that since Ford is not required to put the mileage rating on the sticker, there is no guarantee of a mileage range so basically it's tough luck.

I am trying to find out if anyone else has experienced this and if so, have they found a solution? I have tried a SuperChips re-programmer and it helped a little, but it still is not near what it was initially.F-250 Diesel Fuel Mileage Issues - Need Feedback?
The oil companies have change to the low sulfer fuel and its effecting the mileage I went thu it try running a bottle of marvel mystery oil when filling up and see if that change the mileage.

Some people are running snowmachine two cycle oil and its working for them.

Another problem which you may see is small fuel leaks which there is not much you can do about it, the new fuel is thinner and in some of the older engines it a real issue.

On the brighter side come winter it will start alot easeir and the is no more winter fuel, I had no problem last winter here in Alaska.
You mat have a leaking injector that allows a bit too much fuel on each stroke or a leak in the fuel supply system.F-250 Diesel Fuel Mileage Issues - Need Feedback?
Ok other than the programmer (those things can screw up systems too... had too many programmers and chips cost their owners money on a p-stroke due to this).. are their any other mods to the truck at all? Most love to get the custom exhaust that's why I'm asking.

I would have asked if it was after a visit to the dealer if not using a programmer as Ford had many weird recalls for the 6.0s dealing with the idle on those trucks... and most involved reprogramming 3 modules (remember your power programmer only fools the truck).... Possibly the reprogram did something.. may be wise to see if the program has changed again from your Ford guys and run the latest for a while and see...

Other than that, Have to see the truck to get more ideas... Don't normally do P-stroke work, but those two are the things we see a lot of .....
I agree with Jim W, its the new Bio-Diesel. If something, like your turbocharger was messing up, the diagnostic report on your computer would have poped up the "Service Engine Soon" light. All Fords are computerized man.F-250 Diesel Fuel Mileage Issues - Need Feedback?
check your air filter, the fuel filters may be dirty, the cat may be clogged. is there a noticeable loss of power? could be the famous injector problems.
Don't know a lot about the problem but I would check the fuel filter, check for possible leaks, and see if the fuel has changed ie; cheaper grade different mixture and soforth. Have your driving habits changed?
As with all diesels, its all about the fuel. Any variation in fuel composition or quality can have an effect on the fuel economy. However, I agree with the opinion that mileage can vary in a vehicle that isn't "worn in".
Temperature, grade of diesel fuel, how you calculated the mileage that you were getting in the beginning are all going to change fuel economy. It is true the the truck does not have any fuel economy rating because it is over 8500 GVW.

I would check your economy after your next oil change and have put 1000 miles on the new oil. Try to drive the same way you always do and monitor the mileage.

13 mpg doesn't sound that bad for a 250 SD
I wouldn't use after market chips....very bad for your truck. Your fuel mileage will vary until your motor is worn in (around 150,000 miles). Mine is just below that and the more I drive it the better my fuel mileage has been getting. Also are you doing a lot of short trips? That will really kill Fuel mileage on a diesel. Have you been keeping your oil changes and filters clean and up to date? That will also effect your fuel mileage. Watch the fuel you are putting into your truck as well. Some stations use bio-mixes which don't get as good of fuel mileage.
that's easy you been using the new bio diesel
Do you know if the turbocharger is functioning correctly?

Check out your air filter, oil, and transmission fluid as well.

Superchip or simular on 99 tahoe 4x4?

was wonder if the superchips actually work to improve power and fuel economy?Superchip or simular on 99 tahoe 4x4?
no all this stuff has been pretty much proven to be crap already and I hear lots of yap yap yap about improving power and economy, but that is b s it does not work like that. Ask your mechanic before bolting any of this junk in your car, after all if it was any good, it would be in new cars too and its not. sadly its greedy money grubbers stealing from hard working people with products that do not do what they claim on a stock engine (this is why) all the tests are done on high performance applications. Save your money, ask your mechanic what he thinks first.

    93 octane gasoline smell?

I bought my hubby a superchips programmer.

Ever since he upgraded to 93 octane (91 or higher is required with his tune and in our town i havent seen 91 pump just 87, 89, 93) it smells more gassier. (lol)

I hear that its just the smell of unburned fuel...

is that smell normal???93 octane gasoline smell?
the pistons and engine compression are still stock the fuel wont really make a difference they want to run higher but 91 will do fine even 87 beware a a lot small gas station order 10000 gallon knowing they cant fit all of it in the reg tanks and they put it in thhat e super (personal experience )

the super chips programmer your running a lot richer sound to me like you have a K and N filter on their too this is normal since your running richer get a super coil from accel or msd this will help get rid of t93 octane gasoline smell?
Engine is pumping more fuel to make more power. He needs to make sure all conections are tight and that he a has a good intake system to make the most of the chip. Make sure he changes all his filters on a regular basis. Good luck!!! BTW Nice Pic!!!93 octane gasoline smell?

2004 2wdFuel Economy Improve for 2004 Dakota? which of these may work the best?
I doubt that there will be any fuel mileage increase with any of the options you have listed. I have tried K%26amp;N filters and exhausts and have had zero increase in mileage. Might get a little horse power bump, but no increase in MPG. Best things to do are make sure vehicle has properly inflated tires, energysaving lubricants, drive with a light right foot and make sure vehicle is in good tune (plugs, airfilter etc.). Sometimes on older higher mileage vehicles (+75,000) changing the O2 sensors will help.

Fuel Economy Improve for 2004 Dakota? which of these may work the best?
    Hi Jon,

    Are those my only choices?

MPG gauges are good because they keep the driver more concious of their driving and will be much more likely to pick up better economy driving habits.

PROM Chips may possibly offer a little, but not much more economy due to a modified timing curve. Late or held out shifts certainly dont give better economy. Some chips are plain lousy unless you use premium fuel.

Cool air intake will enrich your system and make it use more fuel.

Straight pipe exhaust could increase efficiency of combustion, but for most applications it would only be at or near wide open throttle which is hardly the thing you would want to do if you were talking economy of fuel.
Actually of these things you'll probably get the most benefit in mpgs from the scangauge. Oddly enough, when you know how much mileage you're getting you tend to find ways to alter your driving habits to make you get better mileage.

    Exhaust-Nothing.

Intake-Maybe if it makes you leaner.

Shift point changer-Maybe in the city, but probably not on the highway...but it's not something you want to mess with in an automatic vehicle (in my opinion);Fuel Economy Improve for 2004 Dakota? which of these may work the best?

    How knows alot about tuners?

i need a tuner engine that puts out around 300 pounds of torque how where how again?

i hear superchips can do this? How knows alot about tuners?
A little tough to answer this. What are putting the motor in? Do you care what type of motor?%26gt; It is not hard to find something that makes 300 lb/ft of torque but it may not be suitable to what you are looking for.

Power Programmer for a Ford Truck?

Would it be safe to use a programmer on a vehicle that has high mileage? My 1997 f250 has a near 200k miles on it and it runs fine. will using a programmer such as superchips, hypertech, Edge etc. be harmful to my truck?Power Programmer for a Ford Truck?
I cant see why not. I am sure there are vehicles out there using them with much higher mileage than yours! 200k is not that much if its been taken care of and hasnt been abused.Power Programmer for a Ford Truck?
Anytime you modify the programming of a stock vehicle you run the risk of breaking something. If you're decent to your truck and don't try and run it around all day on the maximum setting of the programmer, you'll probably be ok.

For performence, what AFR heads can fit my 2005 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 engine size?

The 205 cc Mongoose street LS1 heads should work well. Swap the camshaft while you're at it. If you call AFR, they can suggest a cam that will work well with their heads. A head and cam change along with what you've already done should put you close to Lightning territory. Also, if and when you do the head / cam swap, you'll be best suited to have your ecm custom programmed by a shop that's familiar with LS1 edit, etc. Hand held programmers don't cut it once you've done som emajor mods. For performence, what AFR heads can fit my 2005 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 engine size?
McLaren got it. The 205cc AFR Mongoose heads will fit that thing, and their flow numbers are impressive. I'm hoping to order a set for my 1999 Z28 later this year. Also, I agree with his suggestion for the new cam. While they are in there installing the heads, you might as well install a new cam for even better power numbers. It will also save you another "Tuning Fee" if you do them both at the same time. For performence, what AFR heads can fit my 2005 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 engine size?

I have a 2003 Chevy Duramax and have gotten great service out of it. Recently it has started to spin over for several seconds before it cranks. Could it be water in the fuel. It has been doing it for about a month. Seems to be worse when the motor is hot.Hard to crank Duramax diesel?
Hard cranking like that and seeming worse when it is hot inclines me to think that the fuel shutoff solenoid is going bad. I would also have the fuel pressure checked at the pump . If that engine is equipped with glow plugs, Have them checked tooHard to crank Duramax diesel?
replace your fuel filter if you have not yet, and if that does not cure it then check your fuel pump, also might check your glow plugs too if they are in good working condition to.

Upgrading 06 ford f-350 diesel void warranty?

Such as adding and air aid intake, and or a superchips computer programmer? Will this void my warranty? I.e. if the engine blows up, turbo pops off, engine heats up really high etc etcUpgrading 06 ford f-350 diesel void warranty?
If it can be determined that the aftermarket parts caused the concern with the engine and that use of a like quality OEM style part would not have caused the failure, then it's depending upon the dealer and Ford if you bought it....

That's why the legalize in the Lopez answer about not towing in higher than stage 2 for.... Most people will either forget or not realize that their use of said vehicle (such as as High weight load in the bed) would max it out for that kit and bamn possible warranty issues.

Most issues are due to overboosting and dusting of the 6.0s when it comes to the aftermarket kits and then it's a dealer/Ford Motor Company call...

So technically modifying your vehicle won't void the warranty, but if the aftermarket part causes the fault, Ford won't warranty it, and some of these aftermarket companies start backpedaling when the owner comes after them with a $15,000 engine bill.

In fact that is the warning put on all 08 Superdutys now... If a aftermarket part is determined to be the fault of the failure, then Ford will not warranty it.
Anything the dealer finds, that has been added, will be cited as the cause in the event of an engine failure and of course since it was something you added, it's your fault and voids the warranty. Adding something like that while the warranty is in force, without the dealers written permission, (which you most likely will never get) is taking a big, big risk.Upgrading 06 ford f-350 diesel void warranty?
yes any overide upgrade voids the warranty
This is how Edge Products sees it:

"AFTERMARKET PRODUCTS AND YOUR VEHICLE’S WARRANTY

Many of our customers ask “will your product void my vehicle’s manufacturers warranty?”. While the answer is straightforward from a legal standpoint, we also

want to educate our customers (and after-market consumers) on some industry realities and offer some common sense precautions to minimize your risk.

Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by The Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act provides that if something breaks on your car and you take it

in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless they can prove that whatever modifications you have added to your car actually caused the problem.

Edge’s high quality products never have been proven to cause damage to a vehicle when used as intended. Please keep in mind that towing in anything higher than level two and hard driving in levels four and five are not recommended.

While as a consumer, you have strong legal protection with regards to your vehicle’s warranty, there is also a practical reality that different automotive manufacturers and dealers have greatly varying views on aftermarket products, in particular those that produce horsepower, such as performance enhancement chips, modified intake manifolds, or aftermarket exhaust systems.

There are dealers and manufacturers out there that will use the presence of a horsepower upgrade to void your vehicle’s

warranty. They will do this regardless of whose product you are using. Any aftermarket company that does not acknowledge this is misleading you.

This is also the reason that Edge focuses the bulk of their product development efforts on modules and digital monitors, which can be easily removed before taking your car to a dealer if required.

The bottom line is that while the law protects the consumer and provides for enforcement of the warranty, it is very difficult for most people to hire an attorney and fight a voided warranty. It is for this reason that Edge recommends always disconnect and remove your module and monitor when you take your vehicle to a dealer for warranty work."Upgrading 06 ford f-350 diesel void warranty?
Adding upgrade parts won't void any warranties. However, if the part you add causes a failure, Ford will not pay to fix it under warranty.

So for example, you add a Superchips programmer, now you have tons of hp. If you happen to blow the head gaskets from all that extra power, your Power Stroke warranty will not cover the cost to repair the gaskets.

The only sure fire way to get your warranty cancelled is to tamper with your odometer or have your title branded.
it all depends. some companies dont mind the intake but the chip will def void warranty. Its best to ask them

Why wont my truck spin the 22 inch wheels and tires.?

I have a 5.3 liter v8. i put a superchips tuner on it and added a k %26amp; n filter. plus i have a flowmaster exhaust one in with two out dumped before the rear axle. I can keep up with the ss chevys but sitting at a dead stop my truck wont hardly spin the tires. i have also changed the plugs and wires. its fast after it gets going but man taking off SUCKS!!!!!Why wont my truck spin the 22 inch wheels and tires.?
if the tires are a larger diameter than stock, you have changed your overall gear ratio. this reduces your engines rpm below the stock levels. its as if you are in overdrive in all gears. this means your engine is lugging in low gear.

you can go to randy's ring %26amp; pinion and use their rpm calculator to compute engine rpm stock vs new tires. you can also use it to compare differential gear ratios to correct this.

    http://www.ringpinion.com/

we had the same problem with our 85k10. it came with 373 gears when we added 33" tires performance really suffered, changing to 411 gears corrected this

Why wont my truck spin the 22 inch wheels and tires.?
A set of lower gears would definitely help. I am assuming you have 3.55's. If you are really concerned with boiling the goodyears, swap out your rear ends for a set of 4.11's or 4.56's but be warned that your fuel economy is going to suffer big time
Your gear ratios are made for pulling and hauling, not burning rubber.

Also, why the fxck did you put 22 inch rims on there? Sidewall gives many performance advantages, low profile tires are bad!Why wont my truck spin the 22 inch wheels and tires.?
    1. The wheels are too big AND

    2. Your rear axle gears are geared low for the purpose of fuel efficiency. If you had higher ratio axle gears that would give you added torque for a better launch.
Those are some BIG wheels to be turning. You probably have a high gear ratio also and an automatic transmission doesnt help any either.

Trying to beef up my ride just a little. I have a 91 Camaro RS 305 TBI that has a custom dual exaust(single from the manifolds). Im thinking of putting in a new direct bolt on Throttle Body, maybe a BBK Twin 52mm or 58mm. Also a performance chip from superchips. I think that you may be looking at a TPI throttle body, I don't think BBK makes a TBI unit, however Holley does make a performance throttle body for your engine. i have a bbk throttle body on my 85 and its a good buy and chips are one of the most easiest ways of power but since your putting on the throttle body i would put a better air intake i have a K%26amp;N on mine and it makes it flow betterNew throttle body with a performance chip, good combo?
Well tossing on bolt on modifications then expecting an out of the box chip to improve everything may be a bit of a stretch.

Usually larger TB won't do much for you unless you have changed the volumetric efficiency of the motor. ie change heads, port upper lower intakes etc. TB should be further down the list of mods unless you just have $ to toss around.

There are more obstructions within the engine itself that effect airflow much more than the TB.

The chip has a set of fuel maps programmed into it that are not changeable. There are long term and short term BLMs that will adjust to slight variations in temp/humidity but I wouldn't expect the out of the box chip to know what exhaust, TB, intake, etc you are running and automatically tune your engine for that combo.

I have been modding and tuning my GMC Typhoon for 5+ years now and I gave up using "chips".

I now use a ECM emulator that can be tuned on a laptop on the fly.

Superchips are good, and i know Bully Dog makes a good gas tuner... tuners are extremely effective on diesels, not so much on the gasoline engines but they do make a noticable difference. On a gas, the tuner will give you anywhere from 15-30 HP, and i'm guessing the Superchip has different performance levels. I have a Hypertech on my old body style Expedition, and it makes a small but noticeable difference on the performance. It will also give you up to a few extra MPG. Sounds to me like you're ballin', so go ahead and get one. Good luck buddyI have an '07 ford expedition eddie bauer el with every option on it and i want to know add a superchip?
Fords do not have removable chips. An external programmer is needed to change any of the parameters in the PCM - and any performance increase will depend on the changes that are instituted.

My 96 powerstroke has a rough idle, it has a straight pipe exhaust....?

take it to a mechanic that specializes in Ford Power Stroke and have him do a diagnostic on your injectors. sounds like you could have a weak one or even a bad one. also it could be in your valve cover gaskets, they have wires running threw them and its common for a wire to break causing your injectors to misfire. My 96 powerstroke has a rough idle, it has a straight pipe exhaust....?

Oh, you want power. Use a blower (supercharger). It will cost a lot less than a turbocharger and give you about the same power. You can expect about a 50% increase in horsepower with a blower. An increase like this will be enough to break things if you are not careful, such as when towing or not backing out of the throttle when you are smoking the back tires and the back tires start hopping. So be careful.Trying to get more power out of my dodge ram hemi. Any ideas?

On the superchips programmer, it has the 91 octane performance option. Can my 03' 4.7L handle that kinda heat?Running 91 octane in a dodge ram?
It shouldn't be a problem. Increasing octane is nessasary for advanced timing and higher compression ratios. The chip will change the timing. Do not try to run that setting with lower octane fuel unless you want your engine damaged.Running 91 octane in a dodge ram?
yes it will handle it,running higher octane fuel doesn't really create that much more heat,it just burns a lot smoother than regular fuel does,it wont hurt it none at all to run higher octane fuel in it,good luck.Running 91 octane in a dodge ram?
It's not heat it's the advance in Timing without the 91 it will spark knock and damage the pistons.
Sure, but 91 octane burns hotter and faster meaning less fuel mileage

  • How can i increase my MPG on my Pontiac GTO?

ive heard of superchips and changing your air filters and adding aftermarket radiator fans and such that but ive never been told straight up how to increase the MPG efficiently. id greatly appreciate if somebody could tell me full detailed :)How can i increase my MPG on my Pontiac GTO?
My 2006 GTO gets 25 mpg on the road and only 13 in town. I am very happy that a over 400 hp car can do that. I have K%26amp;N air intake SLP exhaust Power programmer and other modifications. Those mods made more power and did not change the gas milage much. Dynometer engine tunners can get more HP with changing the fuel tables that can really lessen the gas milage. Best gain in fuel economy is driving smoothly like grand dad taught you. Keeping the car waxed and tires pressures set at the factory settings.
take your foot off the gasHow can i increase my MPG on my Pontiac GTO?
Superchips=junk. Get someone with a laptop and HPTuners and do it that way.

Radiator fans don't do anything for MPG.

You drive a GTO, mileage shouldn't be a consideration, lol.

What are you getting around town and on the highway?
there are lots of things you can do. pretty much the basis of better mpg is getting your engine to breath better. cold air intakes and exhaust are the best places to start. also tune ups never hurt. headers, and porting your manifolds have heads will also help your engine breath alot better. and that also means more power.

the best way by far to get better mpg though is simply to get your foot off the gas asap. if you see a red light coming up coast there. same with stop signs, or whenever you need to stop. driving habits are key. also tire pressure can help mpg as well. the less your tires are causing drag the better. i like to keep mine at 35 psi, even though pontiac recomends 30 on my car.

radiator fans would be worthless in the quest for mpg. they would probably keep your engine temp down a little, but overall it helps mpg 0%.

the last thing to do would be to switch to a good synthetic motor oil. like royal purple or amsoil. less friction and drag in your engine, the better mpg. you can watch an episode of horsepower tv where they did a oil change, tranny fluid change, and rear end fluid to royal purple, and gained 9 horsepower. thats from simple fluids. and a engine that if you have the ls1 is the same as yours.

I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 engine on it and I have it chipped with the Superchips Programmer, I added Gibson Headers, it's getting straight pipped with flowmasters next week and I'm going to remove the cats, and I'm also adding a K%26amp;N intake on it, what else can i do to it to get my bang for my buck?? Can you guys help me out, thank you?? i havent tested it out but im just trying to beat or atleast compete with a Ford LightningHow do i get more horsepower on a 05' Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 engine on it?
To compete with a Lightning you're going to have to do something major, either head work and a cam, or a supercharger. You've already done the biggest gainer with the headers. You may want to re-think removing the cats. If you do remove the cats make sure you install simulators or it won't run correctly, if at all, and it won't really increase performance all that much. the cat-back and intake will add a little, but you're probably still going to be around 50 hp shy of a Lightning. How do i get more horsepower on a 05' Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 engine on it?
You have to look up STS turbos on the net.

I want to get one for my car since they offer the power of a turbo, but since its mounted under the car it last longer and hooks up very easyily.

One guy with a silverado reg cab with a short bed is running 11.99 in the quater with a 4.8 liter V8. Plus there is many more really fast trucks that are on the website plus all the upgrades they offer. How do i get more horsepower on a 05' Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 engine on it?
Listen to McLaren. removing the cats may do the opposite of making it go fast . It may make it run on the limp home circuit.

If you want to keep up or beat a Lightening then you have to go to the gun fight with a gun. Put a supercharger on it. Magnuson makes one that is a tidy package.
Can your Silverado run on E-85? If so, it increases horsepower.

I want a computer programmer(like Superchips) that would give my '98 3.8 v6 Mustang a lot more top speed.?

Top speed is 120mph. I need to raise the top speed. I do not care how much the programmer costs. How much extra top speed would the best programmers add? I would love it If i could go 140mph in my car. Also how much extra speed would my dad's 2004 Ford F-250 5.7 gasoline V8 get with a good programmer? It shuts off at 100mph. I do not care how much a programmer costsI want a computer programmer(like Superchips) that would give my '98 3.8 v6 Mustang a lot more top speed.?
It's not your programmer, but your engine.

A 12 year old engine needs a lot of fix up to produce top power. A tune-up will give you more power gain than a new engine chip, which only produces about 10-12 HP any way. Which may get you... 1-2 MPH gain in top speed.

You'd get more top speed if you eliminate all the un-aero bits, like mirrors, wipers, and so on.

The problem isn't the ECU its the power your engine makes. The top speed for your car might or might not be governed, but odds are you wont get much more than 120mph out of a 3.8 V6 with or with out a programmer. all a programmer really does is adjust timing and the fuel curve. you might gain 5-15hp and 5-10lb/ft or torque. A '98 V6 mustang just doesnt really go much faster than 120mph, unless you actually start to build the engine. I wouldn't waste my money on a programmer. I'm guessing you mean a 5.4L for the F150. I wouldn't expect gains much more than 10-15 hp and 10-15lb/ft of torque with a programmer. By '04 they probably had a limiter for the top speed so you might hit 120mph with out it. A truck is not a good high speed vehicle in any way they're large, so more drag coefficient, theyre heavy, so poor power to weight ratio, and unless it's lowered they're pretty unstable at that speed. If you really wanted a higher top speed though, you could change the gear ratio of the rear differential in your mustang from say a 3.31:1 gear to maybe a 2.73:1 ratio. it would decrease acceleration significantly but you would have a higher top speed, and probably for a similar price to what a top of the line programmer would cost.

Can SUPERCHIPS mess up your truck ???

hey there i have a s10 with a 327 .060 and my uncle tried to out do me by putting a superchip in his 2001 dodge truck and now he just told me his truck does not run anymore it wont even start and tomorrow i have to go help him try to fix it and all he said he did was try to install the superchip in it and he went to start it and it wouldent click over. and i dont think he knew what he was doing and messed the truck up but can he fix it ???? i think he might have fried the computer system in his truck when he was trying to setup the superchip but i want to know , how can you fix the truck or is he going to have to spend some money to get it repaired by a professional ???

thanks for your time Can SUPERCHIPS mess up your truck ???
Just installing a chip if not done correctly can damage the vehicles computer. Even if installed correctly they can stress the engine and reduce engine life. Can SUPERCHIPS mess up your truck ???
hey may have just blew a fuse i would start there. also try taking the chip out and plugging everything the way it was before you may be ok if not you may have to take it to a shop to have the computer tested

  • Is high or low rpm for racing in quarter mile?

I have a 2005 chevy silverado single cab 5.3 liter motor with headers and superchips programmer. I can tune my truck from low to max rpm.Is high or low rpm for racing in quarter mile?
Its not as black and white as low end or top end. high or low rpm cause really you need the power across the board and in the range your gear'ed for and trap speed you cross at.

With my old combo.. I launched at 2600 rpm on foot brake, engine made peak HP at 6200 rpm, I shifted at 6400 rpm and I crossed the 1/4 mile traps at 118 mph which was 6,000 rpm

My idea of low end is torque from idle speed up to about 3,000 rpm, then mid range is 3,000 to 5,000 rpm and top end is 5,000 and up

The idea setup is you shift right above engines peak HP, the shift drop in rpm outs you in fat part of torque curve, and then you cross the traps at engine's peak HP RPMIs high or low rpm for racing in quarter mile?
The best thing for you would be to buy a better torque converter for your transmission this will get you out of the gates at a higher RPM.

Also, you need to be using the rpms in between where your peak torque and peak HP are. That should be your optimal rev range.

And for pete's sake, go onto a forum or read a book or magazine and get some knowledge into you. You are gonna need alot of knowledge to make a heavy truck go fast when that 5.3 doesnt really make a lot of HP at the wheels. The truck certainly wasnt designed for drag racing. You would be lucky to be faster then most crappy civics with just those parts installed. You are gonna want to do some major engine work or nitrous injection or something to get that heavy beast moving.

low RPM, you want to be able to get to peak power and quickly as possible. as a general 'rule of thumb' the person ahead at the 60 foot mark is the one that will win

Will adding a performance camshaft cut my MPG?

I have a 99 trans am, total mods. K%26amp;N cold air intake, superchips tuner, and straight piped exaughst. Thinking about putting a cam in it but ive heard it will affect my fuel economy. Will adding a performance camshaft cut my MPG?
a radical cam yes.. look into a superchargerWill adding a performance camshaft cut my MPG?
Yes, you'll also have to use higher flow injectors, that also goes for supercharging as well,

What is the best way to tune a Ford truck with shift points and pressure for best gas mileage with superchips?

I have a 2005 Ford F-150 and have the superchips for it. I've been playing around trying to program it so that it gets better gas mileage, but I can't quite figure it out. My biggest questions are what should the shift points be between 1st and 2nd, 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th? Options are: stock, stock + or - 1-5 mph wot or superchips for 1st to 2nd; stock, + or - 2-10 mph WOT, or superchips for 2nd to 3rd and the same for 3rd to 4th.

Also, what should the shift pressures be for each shift point? Options are: stock, stock + 2 - 20 psi and superchips.

My tires are not z rated and the final question on the superchips things is "Rev Limiter: Raise or Stock"...? Any advice for better gas mileage in this gas guzzling world would help a lot. Thanks in advance. What is the best way to tune a Ford truck with shift points and pressure for best gas mileage with superchips?
Put the shift pressure all the way up on all shifts, this will take away the small amount of slippage that softens the shifts. Shift points + 3 on all but 4th, this helps by needing less throttle on low speed re-acceleration because it causes an early downshift as well. The rev limiter won't matter unless you bump the shift points all the way up, so if you choose to max the shift points raise the rev limiter.

For further improvements consider installing under drive pulleys and an electric fan set up.What is the best way to tune a Ford truck with shift points and pressure for best gas mileage with superchips?
Thats really all you can do is keep "playing" around w/ your tuner until you reach a good point between shift points and fuel mileage. The tuner lets you change your shift points to allow the trans. to shift smoother and a bit quicker. The rev limiter does just that,it raises your rpms@ top end to allow you a few more mph before the computer starts limiting the rpms the engine is turning. The difference is a few mph over stock.I installed a Diablo tuner in my 2000F-150 and I encountered the same problems that you are.The tuner really never firmed up the shifts like it advertised it would, and I changed shift points and pressure several times and really never was happy w/ the performance of the trans.I talked to a performance trans.shop here in town, the guy told me tuner really never gives you the performance you think you'll get, they will change a couple of things but can never combine performance and economy together.I had them install a Trans-Go shift kit, make some mods to the valve body, change shifting parameters in the computer like shift points and line pressure, wow! My F-150 shifts like it should have when I bought the truck 8 years ago.Nice tight firm shifts when your just crusing around, but when you jump on it,I get a chirp from first and second, and I leave it in drive.Check out the shift kit,it might be what your looking for, sorry so long, but I know exactly what your going through, hope this helped.

  • Can you use one chip for multiple vehicles?

If I were to buy a SuperChips or Bullydog engine tuner for my '01 Ford Powerstroke, could I use it for my dad's excursion(also powerstroke) as well? Is there anything on the tuner that limits it's use to one engine? Can you use one chip for multiple vehicles?
no its made for one car/its got to have the right sequence for the one year make and model etcCan you use one chip for multiple vehicles?
You can't swap tuner because once the tuner is programmed one vehicle, it becomes vin locked. Some custom tuner sell software to tune vehicles and you can buy a blank chip and a license to burn that chip. Or if the 2 vehicles gave the same pcm code and transmission you can swap a chip from one or the other. But whichever vehicle didnt have the chip, would be stock. You also need to run gauges when using a tuner. Can you use one chip for multiple vehicles?
Depends on the brand of tuner. Some can move vehicle-to-vehicle while others imprint the vehicle VIN number %26amp; won't work on another car.
