has the vehicle been inspected , licensed and titled now? if not dont buy it. keep in mind these vehicles are difficult to sell, often poorly reconstructed and everyone always says it was only a "fender and a hood" or a hood and a bumper" they do not total cars with a dented fender. Major systems such as airbags and Air Conditioning seldom work . The vehicle is worth 50 percent of low book. Look on www.nada.com if low book is 4,000 the vehicle is worth 2 grand at MOST. AND INSURANCE COMPANIES do not pay off if a vehicle is totaled again. What this means to you is the vehicle vin number is already in the insurance data base as totaled. They do not pay twice to total a vehicle. So if littly johnny down the street whangs your car drunk one night and totals it , you get nothing , all you can do is get liability insurance on a totaled car.But you cannot get your money back out of it if someone hits it and wrecks it again.Georgia salvage title law question?
Legal if you're buying it for parts. If you want to put it on the road it will need a "salvage rebuilt" title.
Rebuilding
Only a licensed rebuilder may resurrect a salvage vehicle, so don't try to fix the car yourself. You must use a licensed rebuilder to be able to have the title's brand changed from "salvage" to "rebuilt." After that, you may again register and drive the vehicle.
Inspections
If you have restored or rebuilt a salvaged car in the state of Georgia, you must have it inspected at an approved salvage inspector before you can title it. Inspections may be done at one of the approved locations or at your home or business. If you choose to have the inspection done at a station, you must tow the vehicle there鈥昳nspections will not be done on vehicles driven there.
See http://www.dmv.org/ga-georgia/salvaged-v鈥?/a> for more on the subject, but unless it has the rebuilt title I'd look elsewhere.
