Tire chains for trip to Lake Tahoe?

I'm going to Lake Tahoe (USA, California) this weekend and I've heard that there are 4 inches of snow. I'm driving 5 people plus luggage in my Mercedes-Benz sedan. What's the best way to go about doing the whole tire chain thing? I don't go up to the snow enough, I think, to necessitate me buying my own chains, but is that more affordable than getting them fitted once I'm near Tahoe by one of those professional booths? How much are chains, and how much is it to get them put on once I'm near the snow?

Thanks a lot!Tire chains for trip to Lake Tahoe?
the chains can run from $75 - $200 depending on the size you need, usually you can get them installed for around $30, have fun on your trip/
