Why are Dick Cheney and George W. trying so hard to get the auto industry bailout loan passed in Congress?

Are they trying real hard to salvage some semblance of a legacy?

Will a major downturn in the economy precipitated by major auto companies going out of business be put at the feet of the Republican party?

Are they afraid of the name George Bush being synonomous with that of Herbert Hoover? Why are Dick Cheney and George W. trying so hard to get the auto industry bailout loan passed in Congress?
Yes; they know their administration is one of the least popular in American history. Here at the very end, they're trying to do something to give themselves a little bit of positive credit.
Probably. It's a last ditch effort, with good intentions. I have heard it said before though that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. This is no different. Why are Dick Cheney and George W. trying so hard to get the auto industry bailout loan passed in Congress?
yes, they want a legacy.

a crash cause by a collapse of the auto industry would look terrible for them.

they need a new way to waste money.

they are stupid and seem to think that the extra $$$ will help solve the problem, but it wont.
No, I don't believe any of your 3 suggestions, I believe they are trying hard to get the LOAN (not bailout like the banks, the big 3 will pay it back) because it will save the backbone of our economy. If we lose the big 3, we lose 1million+ jobs, the big 3 go down and we are headed into a depression. They are trying to pass it because it is their job to look our for the American citizen. Bush haters seem to forget the fact that Bush was ELECTED into office a second time, he didn't just wind up in there. Why are Dick Cheney and George W. trying so hard to get the auto industry bailout loan passed in Congress?
They are trying one last time to drain the pockets of american tax payers. To destroy the value of a dollar, by getting a few more billion printed. To desroy our free market economy, and ensure our transition to communism, and the development of the one world government.

Remember, back in 05 bush signed the SPP act with mexico and canida, to form the north american union... The roll out of the new monitary unit, 'the amero' was set to be 2010.

The only way to get americans to destroy our national soverignty, and embrace a new monitary unit, is to destroy the one we currently have.

Drag us into a depression, and offer the AMero as the solution.

They are playing us, shaping our public opinion, and forcing us into submission.
Because it's the right thing and it will save a lot of jobs homes and family's from going under.
The UAW have dug their own grave. Until they resolve their legacy retirement and wage plans they are doomed to fail no matter how much we fund them. When you pay more to employees than the product produces in profitability, don't expect to stay in business.

What angers me is the idea that my son of 13 is going to be held responsible for the failings and irresponsibility of the Union and ECO with their legacy contracts. The CEO golden parachutes pale in comparison to the UAW golden parachtes (ie: paying you when you dont work, near full salary pensions from cradle to grave etc...) their legacy contracts and retirees are screwing their current workers. The UAW has given concession after concession and they are still being paid more than the profits of the companies. 10% of every car sold goes to legacy contracts about 1500-1600 dollars. Foreign companies employing US workers in the south are profitable because they don't have these outrageous UAW golden parachutes and CEO golden parachutes. They will ultimately go under regardless of whether we bail them out or whether we don't, unless current and legacy contracts are renegotiated - PERIOD. The current UAW guy is being screwed by the legacy UAW guys and since they wont bash each other they look to find others to blame (CEO's). It take 2.25 active workers to cover benefits for 1 Retiree. Same problem we have with social security.

PS: It not just a bailout its not just a loan. Its a Bailout loan because they need a loan as a result of the UAW's and CEO's legacy agreements. UAW for demanding outrageous contracts in the past, and CEO for signing it knowing it was not a viable business model. Thats where the bailout perspective comes from.
ya, trying to save what little face they have left...........

actually i would not be surprised if it was a Set-up by the CEO"s and the Republicans, and a few Democrats, to force the Unions out and to give up the Legacy money~!

Republicans in the White-house have nothing to lose if everything goes tumbling down~!
Going into bankruptcy doesn't mean there will be no more "Big 3". Maybe this is the wake-up call that is needed for those auto unions. Maybe it's time to start making better cars. I really don't think the House, Senate or White House, knows what they are trying to save or trying to prevent.
Maybe if they don't bail them out those large industry CEOs will sue Bush and Cheney LOL
